1985: JASCO Introduces Supercritical Fluid
Chromatography

In 1985, JASCO introduced the first commercially available SFE/SFC coupled-system which included a patented, electronically controlled back-pressure regulator, which offered precise pressure control for the SFC elution process. This critical feature for obtaining separation reproducibility in experiments using supercritical fluids (including chromatography, extraction, synthesis, and more) gave the JASCO system a real advantage over future competitive offerings. In 1986, Hara of Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences demonstrated the chiral separation of d- and l-amino acid derivatives by using the JASCO SFC system.
